Sunday Secret

I would never tell anyone this but I have spent a good portion of my life figuring out how to make my own clear decisions.  How to nail down exactly what it is that I am yearning to do or eat or read or say or see and as I’ve acquired the James Bond ability to read and decipher my own Instruction Manual I’ve developed an unrelenting need to be surrounded by things that I think are pretty.

Notebooks that remind me of Camelot, journals with bright orange velvet birds on the cover, pens in every color of the rainbow placed in the most gorgeous little shiny gold holder, flowers that scream Shabby Chic when Shabby Chic was the answer to all of our problems, little pink onyx heart rocks placed next to an odd little teak box that contains a secret miniature drawer and that has the word FAITH carved on the top of it, mouse pads that make my heart thump, cream colored candles that smell like gardenias—like little trophies that remind me how I contemplate and choose and then surround myself with what I think is beautiful and oh how this brings me such solace— oh how this brings me such sturdy, everlasting, safe joy.
